Absolutely David - vertical search is still pretty much overlooked and has been for the last few years. I'm a shareholder and advisor for a company called "genie group" which has focussed on a variety of sites such as broadband genie which put attention purely into helping people find the best broadband package through price comparison, whilst also doing special deals with the broadband players, understanding the market in depth, and providing high quality broadband guides and related content for the user base.

The question I wonder is if there is a play on doing even deeper vertical search - e.g. "flights to iceland" instead of just "flights"?

Just after this investment was made Zoomf - represented by Ivailo - presented at the Venture Capital Investment Competition at London Business School. 7 teams of MBA students had to choose an 'investment ' between 5 companies. Three teams chose to invest in Zoomf - sadly no money could actually go on the table! Best of luck with your investment and relationship with Zoomf.

Hugo, sounds like a great presentation and a terrific event as usual from Robert! I agree with everything you listed above and Cheapflights has it in spades.

Something that UK entrepreneurs seem to be less comfortable at doing than their US counterparts is to brag. If you've got a great idea - tell everyone! You captured this in passion, but I think it's important to highlight again. You are right - you don't need to spend on advertising, but you need to spread the word. You and David have done this very gracefully and provide a terrific example of how to evangelise your business without crossing the line.

Thanks for posting your notes from the event.
